'May' Fine Art Print A3
Pairs well with
"I'm a remarkable woman, always was, though none of you seemed to think so."
When it comes to the Arts & Crafts movement, it's easy just to think of the work of men such as William Morris and Edward Burne-Jones. However, the movement was one of the first to encourage women to learn a craft and become artists in their own right.
May Morris, daughter of William Morris, was put in charge of the embroidery department of her fathers firm at the age of 23. A talented embroiderer, May was not only in charge of production, but created her own designs for the firm's catalogue. May was unhappy with the lack of support available to female artists, and in 1907 founded the Women's Guild of Arts.
Our 'May' print celebrates the work of this remarkable woman. Giclee printed onto the finest quality etching paper and hand-finished with gold leaf, 'May' is a stunning reminder of one of the iconic women of the Arts & Crafts period.
